1st Grade Knowledge Bowl

Recently, Lydia was in the 1st grade knowledge bowl. Mimi, Nanny and Layton and I were able to go cheer her on!

She was 1 of 5 that represented her class. To say that she was excited would be an understatement! They had 15 questions, her team had about a minute to discuss the answer to each question, then answer. They all did a great job, but unfortunately they came in 2nd place.

Meat-head

Dave’s family is notorious for cutting up, being silly, etc... If you have ever been around them, you would know that they never call you by name. In 15 years, I have heard my father in law say my name maybe 5 times. He calls me Pearline, Ruby May, Sally, etc… Dave does the same except he will say Goofy, Meathead, Tooty Fruity. Somehow we just know who they are talking to. Layton has picked up on this fine family trait. She now calls everyTHING and everyONE Meathead.

At first, as always when they do something new, it was cute and funny but now I am starting to question if she will stop! I heard her talking to her babies the other morning. They were having a birthday party. When she placed them where they needed to be, she started singing happy birthday to one of them. Apparently, the birthday girl didn’t know that she was the birthday girl because Layton looked down in her face and said “I’m talking to you Meat-head”. (she says it in 2 syllables) I could hear Dave and his father in her little voice. I thought I was going to fall on the floor from laughing so hard.

If she is trying to get my attention and I don’t look or answer her fast enough, I’m a Meathead. If her sister isn’t cooperating like Layton thinks she should, she’s a Meathead. And since her and her daddy are constantly picking and playing with one another, he’s a Meathead a lot! The dog is a Meathead too when Layton throws her toy and she won't fetch it! I have said it a million times before but she is truly her father's child, she is so much like him that it's scary.

This makes me dizzy!

This is Lydia's room!

A few weeks ago we went over a friend's house. Their daughter is a teenager and had a few posters on her bedroom wall. Lydia loved her posters and asked me if we could get her some. The next day we went and bought her a teen magazine.

Since then she has talked everyone she's been with to take her to the store to get another magazine. She succeeded and now this is what it looks like! Needless to say, it makes me dizzy walking in there. She loves it. Layton likes them too, she pulls a few off every night, without big sister knowing!

And she's adding some more.....

My little artist!

I have been waiting on this moment for a while now …

I never experienced this with Lydia but Layton is a bit more “adventurous” than Lydia so like I said, I have been expecting this. I try my hardest to keep any sort of writing object away from her unless I am watching but that is almost impossible. Obviously, this night she found a pencil (thank God it was only a pencil)!! That afternoon I noticed she was being very quite, which normally means she is into something she shouldn’t be. When I found her, she was in her room playing, I was surprised (and happy) that she was being a good girl. While giving her a bath that night, she told me "I drawed a pretty picture in my bedroom". I knew immediatley what she was talking about. After the bath, she took me to her room and showed me her drawing. She was so proud. I didn’t have the heart to spank her but I did tell her that it wasn’t appropriate to write on the walls and not to do it again. I had to take her picture beside her artwork, even though I am sure that wasn’t the “right” thing to do!!! I did make her help me clean it off. A week later, I saw markings in the hallway too. I guess after the lecture I gave her about her room, she didn’t want to tell me about the hallway too! I am sure there will be many more in our future but this was her first!

Lydia basketball 2012

Lydia played basketball again this winter. She moved up in the league and things were different. More of the common basketball rules applied this year. Her favorite thing was playing defense. She defended her opponent very well, a little too well at times! I had so much fun watching her play this year. I have never seen her be so competitive and serious about something. Needless to say, she improved a lot over the last year. Her team won 6 out of 8 games. Overall, we had another great experience playing Upward basketball and can't wait until next year!

Go #5!

The one with the crazy socks would be my sweet Lydia! She likes to wear things wear we can spot her easily!

I think this is the first time I have ever seen these two with such serious faces!

Lydia's biggest fan. She would tell us throughout the games, "There's my idia"!

Fancy Nancy (and Taylor Swift)

Last week, Lydia had "character day" at school. She could dress up as any book character. She chose to dress as "Fancy Nancy", which is a series of books about a little girl that loves anything fancy. I agreed that it would be perfect for her to dress as Fancy Nancy because if you know anything about Lydia, it's that she is a very fancy little girl. She loves anything and everything fancy. She "fancifies" everything around her. The first time she ever learned to drive a lawn mower, she had a snow white dress on! She is all about dressing up and looking as fancy as she can. So, Friday morning she dressed as "Fancy Nancy"!

Layton was confused as we were dressing Lydia for school and asked what we were doing. I told her that Lydia was dressing up for school. She walked away but I could tell that she was thinking really hard. She came back several minutes later and said she was Taylor Swift! So, here is our very own Fancy Nancy and Taylor Swift!!

The Naked Preacher

While cleaning this weekend, I walked through the laundry room and found...

The Naked Preacher.

She was saying, "The Lord Jesus loves you." I couldn't help but get the camera out and take a picture. And in some crazy way, I was proud! Proud that she knows who Jesus is and that he loves us.
